Privacy Policy

Version 1 · Effective June 12, 2026

This is our current Privacy Policy. We keep it in plain language on purpose, and we update it as our practices formalize. Some formal legal sections are still being finalized with counsel; the commitments below are what we hold ourselves to today.

The short version

We don’t show ads. We don’t sell your data. We don’t use your writing to train AI. We keep only what we need, and we delete your account when you ask. Align-ment is designed for adolescents, with adult oversight.

Who we are

Align-ment is a product of StateShift Inc., a Delaware public-benefit corporation. This policy covers the adolescent app at my.align-ment.co. The marketing site at align-ment.co and any future adult product have their own policies.

What we collect

From you: your name, age, and email (or a partner enrollment code); the conversations you have with the guide; the reflections you write; photos you choose to upload; and survey answers if you take one.

From your device: basic technical information (browser, operating system, IP address — used for security) and aggregate usage (which screens are visited, how often) for improving the product.

When applicable: a record that a parent or guardian consented, and the information a sponsoring partner needs to set up your account.

What we do not collect: government IDs or Social Security numbers, credit-card or financial information, biometric data, precise location, information bought from data brokers, or anything from social-media accounts.

How we use it

To provide the practice; to operate the safety mechanisms (a classifier reads conversations to detect crisis signals, and a voice-guard checks the guide’s replies before they reach you); to communicate with you, and with a parent/guardian or sponsoring partner where applicable; to improve the product in aggregate; and to meet legal obligations.

We do notuse your information to show ads, to train AI models (ours or any vendor’s), to build marketing profiles, or to track you across other apps.

How we share it

With the vendors who run the product for us (listed in our internal sub-processor record — currently our hosting, database, AI model, email, and error-monitoring providers), each bound by contract to use your information only to provide their service.

With a sponsoring partner, only what’s needed to confirm enrollment and to notify them of a severe safety signal — never your conversations or reflections.

With a parent or guardian, only what the consent flow specifies. We do not share your conversation content with your parent.

With law enforcement or child-welfare authorities, when required by valid legal process, when a reviewer must meet a mandatory-reporter obligation, or to prevent imminent harm to a child.

We never sell or rent your information, and we don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers.

How long we keep it

Conversations and reflections are kept while your account is active. An account with no activity for 12 months (or 6 months if it has fewer than 5 sessions) is treated as abandoned; we send a 90-day notice before deleting it. Safety records are kept for 7 years. When you delete your account, safety records are anonymized and everything else is permanently deleted.

Your choices

You (or your parent/guardian) can ask us to: give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete your account, export your data, withdraw parental consent, or raise a complaint. Email us and we’ll help.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is restricted by row-level security — you can only see your own data, and reviewers can only see safety records assigned to them. The AI key never reaches your browser; all model calls happen on our servers. No system is perfect; if an incident affects your data, we follow our incident-notification process.

Changes & contact

We give at least 30 days’ notice of material changes, in the app and by email where we have one. Questions, requests, or complaints: safety@align-ment.co.
