Terms of Use
Version 1 · Effective June 12, 2026
These are our current Terms. We keep them in plain language and update them as the product matures. Some formal legal sections are still being finalized with counsel; the terms below are what apply today.
What Align-ment is
Align-ment is a guided values-based decision-making practice for adolescents, operated by StateShift Inc., a Delaware public-benefit corporation. It is a practice tool — not a mental-health service, therapist, crisis service, or medical device.
Who can use it
Align-ment is for participants ages 13 to 17. You affirm at sign-up that you are at least 13. If you are under 13, please don’t create an account — you’re welcome back when you turn 13. Use also requires that a parent or guardian has consented in the way our consent process describes.
Your account
You own what you create in your account — your writing, your reflections, your photos. You don’t own the underlying software, the AI model, or other intellectual property. Keep your login private; if you think someone else has accessed your account, contact us. You can close your account any time from Settings or by email, and we’ll delete it following our deletion process.
We may suspend or close an account if these Terms or our safety rules are violated, if eligibility isn’t met, if a parent withdraws consent, if a sponsoring partner withdraws you, or if the law requires it.
Using it well
Please don’t try to defeat the safety mechanisms, misrepresent your age or identity, access someone else’s account, use bots or scrapers, or try to extract or reverse-engineer the system. Align-ment is for personal reflection — designed for graduation, not engagement — and conduct that runs against that spirit may result in suspension.
Who owns what
StateShift owns Align-ment — the software, the workbook content, the system prompt, the safety architecture, the curriculum, and the brand. You keep ownership of your own writing and reflections. By using Align-ment you give us a limited, royalty-free license to store your content, run it through the safety mechanisms, send it to the AI model to generate a response, and use de-identified aggregate information to improve the product. That license ends when you delete your content (except safety records, which are retained as described in our Privacy Policy). The AI model is provided by Anthropic and remains Anthropic’s.
What we can and can't promise
Align-ment is not a substitute for professional care, and it is not a crisis service. The AI can be wrong or produce unexpected output, and our safety mechanisms are best-effort, not infallible. If you’re in danger, contact 911, or call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), which are available 24/7.
